 CLINICIAN COMMUNICATIONS

The majority of the time spent by the Psychiatrist in 3CM is involved with care manager supervision. Out of these supervision calls there will at times arise a need to directly communicate with a PCC to offer specific advice about a patient. This can be done by telephone, direct contact, or email, depending on the particular site and relationships.
Some times a pattern of medication selection, under-dosing, or particular side effect issues will be observed for several PCCs served by a care manager. When this happens it is often useful to send a general email or letter to the entire group of PCCs educating them about the issue.
In addition to helping in specific patient situations, these types of communications are an important part of the educational underpinnings of 3CM. As shown in Figure VI-A based on the PRECEDE model of education.
