The MacArthur Foundation Initiative on Depression and Primary Care has
developed a range of resources to help primary care clinicians recognize and
manage depression. The Tool Kit collects, in one place, a variety of easy to
use instruments and information to assist clinicians and patients with the
various steps in the process of care for depression recognition and treatment.
The Tool Kit was designed as a stand-alone package that could be used by any
interested clinician. Similarly, PowerPoint lecture presentations,
commissioned by the Initiative, are available. These materials may be of use
for clinicians designing their own lectures or presentations on depression
recognition and management.

The materials for Re-Engineering Practices are designed to be used as part of
an overall program for re-engineering a primary care practice to manage
depression as a chronic disease. The material in this section is for the
clinicians in a practice (e.g. family physician, general internist, nurse
practitioner, physician's assistant), care managers, and office staff. For
implementation, the Clinician Education Manual is intended to be used during a
two hour, interactive workshop. Office staff complete a separate inservice and
care managers have separate intensive training workshops. Specific materials
(a facilitator guide and PowerPoint presentation) are provided for a leader to
lead the workshop for clinicians.
